Automated ultrasonic inspection of steel plate

A low-cost multi-channel system for the ultrasonic inspection. of steel pla te is presented. Up to 3.5 m, width can be scanned in one pass at a speed o f 1 m/s. The array of 176 transducers, each with a width of 25 mm with 5 mm overlapping, ensures a 100% surface coverage. These features are achieved using a new architecture concept for the ultrasonic electronics and hardwar e. Several advanced software tools such as automatic calibration facility, automatic evaluation and optimised cutting routine are also available at th e operator's desk.
