An. Korobeinikov et al., Geology and copper sulphide mineralization of the Salmagorskii ring igneous complex, Kola Peninsula, NW Russia, J PETROLOGY, 39(11-12), 1998, pp. 2033-2041
The Salmagorskii igneous complex represents a rare example of peralkaline r
ocks containing significant copper sulphide mineralization presented by cha
lcopyrite, djerfisherite and cubanite. Data on the geological structure of
the complex and the copper sulphide-apatite mineralization related to its f
oidolitic peralkaline rocks have been obtained from drilling in recent year
s. The sequence of rocks (dunite-clinopyroxenite-melilitolite-yolite-urtite
-melteigite-carbonatite) forms a perfect concentric zoning within the pluto
n indicating that fractional crystallization was the predominant petrogenet
ic process. Copper sulphide mineralization formed at the post-magmatic stag
e, when recrystallization processes within earlier yolite and melteigite to
ok place under the influence of a fluid rich in CO2, H2O, alkalis, S, P, Cu
, and, Cl.
