Abstract
The held profile of the in-plane thermal conductivity kappa in Bi2Sr2CaCu2O 8 displays a striking anomaly below 20 K. At a 'kink'' field H-k, the profi le exhibits a sharp break in slope, followed by a plateau in which kappa is field independent. The anomaly suggests a phase transition of the condensa te to a state in which the quasi-particle heat current is zero. We discuss aspects of the experiment and some recent interpretations.
