Properties of ten wax compositions recommended for rubber goods, especially
for tyres were evaluated. Routine test methods and high temperature GC and
DSC have been applied. A typical NR/SBR rubber compound and two tyre sidew
all compounds were used. Ozone accelerated tests were carried out in an ozo
ne chamber and a refrigerator equipped with an ozone generator at temperatu
res of 40 and 0 degrees C. The antiozonant effect of waxes was related to t
heir chemical structure, e.g. carbon number distribution of normal and bran
ched paraffins. The most effective wax compositions at high and low tempera
ture were selected.
