Several MFI-type silicates containing Co and Al were synthesized as catalys
ts for elimination of NO under excess oxygen condition. Their characteristi
cs were assessed by X-ray powder diffraction analysis, adsorption of N-2 to
determine the BET surface area, temperature-programmed desorption of NH3,
and diffuse reflectance electron absorption. The Co content in as-synthesiz
ed Co . Al-silicate had almost no influence on Al content, while the Co con
tent in H-Co . Al-silicate decreased with increasing Al content. The cataly
tic activity for conversion of NO on H-Co . Al-silicate was improved by Co
ion-exchange. The conversion of NO on Co/H-Co . Al-silicate was higher than
that on Co/H-Al-silicate, although the conversion of CH4 on both was ident
ical. This improvement could be ascribed to appropriate combination of diff
