T. Kaneko et al., Internet audio technologies and application services - Real-time music transmission and distribution by TwinVQ, NTT REVIEW, 10(6), 1998, pp. 119-123
We have developed a real-time transmission and distribution system of hi-fi
music on the assumption that it will be run on best effort type networks s
uch as OCN and the Internet, which do not guarantee bandwidth. By applying
the TwinVQ*(1) technology to compress and encode music, we have succeeded i
n reducing the amount of data to be transmitted to between one fifteenth to
one ninetieth while limiting deterioration in sound quality to a certain e
xtent. The TwinVQ software has been introduced to a range of application se
rvices for a large number of customers as the multimedia platform NTT provi
des.
