The reflectivity and the quantum yield of the 'blue' and 'green' luminescen
ce bands of high-purity PbWO4 single crystals were investigated in a wide e
xcitation energy region from 3.5 up to 35 eV at 10 K. The results of Kramer
s-Kronig calculations of other optical functions of lead tungstate in the f
undamental absorption region are presented. The analysis of the quantum yie
ld spectra of 'blue' and 'green' luminescence allows to estimate the band g
ap of lead tungstate and to identify the mechanisms of energy transfer to t
he luminescence centres responsible for blue and green emission.
