We discuss a nonlinear forced magnetohydrodynamic dynamo simulation that ex
hibits a surprising range of behavior, including multiple hydrodynamic stat
es with different dynamo properties. Magnetic fields may decay after initia
l kinematic amplification. This behavior emphasizes that initial conditions
must be taken into account when classifying nonlinear dynamos. (C) 1998 Pu
