Symmetry breaking in string theory

A mechanism for a spontaneous breakdown of CPT symmetry appears in string t heory, with possible implications for particle models. A realistic string t heory might exhibit CPT violation at levels detectable in current or future experiments. A possible new mechanism for baryogenesis in the early Univer se is also discussed.
