The compressional relaxation performance of poly(tetrafluoro ethylene) (PTF
E) in the alpha-transition region has previously been analysed and systemat
ized using a two-component (TC) model. To further validate the consistency
of the model and of the properties of its parameters, tan delta is calculat
ed for extended ranges of temperature (from - 50 to 250 degrees C) and freq
uency (from 10(-6) to 10(8) Hz) and compared to dynamic mechanical as well
as dielectric data. Modifying the original temperature dependence of one of
the parameters of the model, namely of the characteristic relaxation time,
leads to good qualitative and quantitative agreement between experiments a
nd predictions for the whole experimentally accessed frequency ( approximat
e to 1 to 10(7) Hz) and temperature range (120-200 degrees C) of the alpha-
transition. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
