Abstract
Since its introduction into clinical practice 25 years ago, echocardiograph y has become an important component of cardiac evaluation. It can provide a ccurate, quantitative data in patients with valvular heart disease and thus is particularly useful in diagnosis and follow-up. The authors of this art icle describe the various types of valvular disease, emphasizing the role o f echocardiography in assessment.
