The contact deposition of zinc on aluminum in diluted alkaline solutions is
studied, it is shown that polarization dia,at ams in their traditional sim
plified version are inapplicable for determining the contact exchange curre
nt in a system that involves the commensurable current of side reactions be
cause the net polarization curve of corroding metal reveals only the differ
ence between the metal's total anodic dissolution current and the current o
f the oxidant's cathodic reduction. A possibility of extracting zinc from s
pent solutions, as well as wash and local industrial waste waters, by its c
ontact deposition on aluminum is shown.
