Js. Liu et al., Fabrication and tensile properties at elevated temperatures of TiC particulate reinforced ZA43 composite, SC J METALL, 27(5), 1998, pp. 214-218
A TiC/ZA43 composite has been fabricated by XD casting and compocasting tec
hniques in the present work. The microstructure of TiC/ZA43 composite consi
sts of TiC particles in size of 0.5 similar to 1.5 mu m dispersed uniformly
in a fine granular matrix. The tensile properties of TiC/ZA43 composite at
ambient and elevated temperatures (to 250 degrees C) were tested with stre
ss-strain plots. The results show that TiC particulate reinforcement remark
ably improves the strength of ZA43 alloy at room and elevated temperatures,
and the fracture mode of the composite changes from mixed to ductile with
the tensile temperature increasing from ambient temperature to about 250 de
grees C.
