Abstract
The aluminium chloride catalysed Friedel-Crafts reaction between adipoyl ch loride and bromobenzene has been reexamined. At elevated temperatures a num ber of side products are produced including a cyclopentane epoxide. The str ucture of this epoxide was elucidated by nmr and ir spectroscopy and its st ereochemistry confirmed by x-ray crystallography. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
