The methods of HPLC, TLC, UV spectroscopy, H-1 and C-13 NMR spectroscopies,
viscometry, and translational diffusion measurements are used to study the
interaction of C-60 fullerene with poly(N-vinylpyrrolidone) in two systems
: a blend of individual components and a fullerene-containing copolymer, It
is established that sufficiently strong donor-acceptor complexes are forme
d between the components. Complex formation is accompanied by a local chang
e in the polymer chain conformation. As a result, several chain units are i
nvolved in the interaction with a fullerene molecule. Light-scattering meas
urements show that in dilute aqueous solutions fluctuation associates are f
ormed with participation of a solvent because of the structuring action of
fullerene.
