Abstract
Effects of the metal-metal distance on the third-order nonlinear optic
al property of one-dimensional platinum complexes were investigated. G
lyoximes with several alkyl substituents were synthesized as a ligand
for one-dimensional platinum complexes. All prepared platinum complexe
s had linear platinum chains in the solid state and had different plat
inum-platinum distance depending on the steric hindrance of alkyl subs
tituents. They showed the 5d(z2)6p(z) transition band in the visible r
egion, of which peak wavelengths were well related to the platinum-pla
tinum distance. Frequency dispersion of the third-order nonlinear susc
eptibilities chi((3)) for evaporated thin films of platinum-alkyldione
dioxime complexes was estimated by the third-harmonic generation measu
rements. It was revealed that the shorter metal-metal distance gave th
e larger chi((3)).
