Abstract
The 1,2-bis(4,4'-dipyridinium)ethane dication threads through dibenzo-24-cr own ether (DB24C8) to form a [2]pseudorotaxane which is easily stoppered to form [2]rotaxanes either by alkylation or coordination of a transition met al complex.
