Ev. Golikova et al., The electrokinetic potential and the aggregation stability of alundum in sodium dodecyl sulfate solutions, COLL J, 60(6), 1998, pp. 689-695
Electrosurface properties and the stability of hydrophilic dispersions of a
lundum in solutions of KCl and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) are investigate
d by microelectrophoresis and the flow ultramicroscopy techniques. It is fo
und that aged aqueous dispersions of alundum are highly stable to indiffere
nt electrolytes. Addition of SDS accompanied by the neutralization of the p
article charge due to SDS adsorption have no noticeable effect on the stabi
lity of dispersions. The results obtained are explained by the presence of
developed boundary layers of water near the surface of alundum particles.
