Bh. Saharjo et H. Watanabe, Forest fire prevention through prescribed burning in Acacia mangium plantation in south Sumatra, Indonesia, FOR SCI, 54, 1998, pp. 641-648
A 15 m x 10 m plot was established at 3,4, 5, and 6-years of plantation age
of A.mangium located in one forest concession area in South Sumatra, Indon
esia In each plot, available fuel, fuel moisture content, seed storage on a
nd under the soil surface, tree height, and diameter are measured before bu
rning. 3 ton/ha of fuel loads and 8 cm fuel bed depths were used as treatme
nt. Flame length and flame temperature using Tempilaq (temperature indicati
ng liquid) is measured during burning. Fires were set on the sides all side
s of the plot at the same time. After burning, fuel remaining, natural seed
ling regeneration in the forest floor, injured trees, crown scorch, and shr
ub invasion were calculated.
