Normal modes and their dispersion are reported for the cc-helical form of p
oly(L-aspartic acid) which is an important polypeptide used in the sustaine
d release of drugs. Characteristic features of dispersion curves such as bu
nching and repulsion are discussed. Heat capacity is derived from the dispe
rsion curves via density-of-states and compared with the available experime
ntal data on sodium salt of the polymer. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All
