Abstract
A novel polyamide, i.e. poly(thiazoleterephthalamide), was synthesized by p olycondensation of 2,5-diaminothiazole (DAT) with terephthalic acid (TPA) i n N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone (NMP) as solvent at 225-230 degrees C under nitrog en atmosphere. The resulting polyamide was soluble in highly polar solvents . The inherent viscosity of the polyamide in N,N'-dimethylformamide (DMF) a t 30 degrees C was found to be 0.52 dl/g. The polyamide was characterized b y elemental analysis, IR, H-1 NMR, TGA, DSC, and X-ray diffraction. (C) 199 8 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.
