Abstract
Fluorescence in situ hybridization has revealed that the supernumerary chro mosome segment (SCS) distally located on the S-10 chromosome of the grassho pper Oedipoda fuscocincta is partly composed of ribosomal DNA. Since the on ly rDNA cluster in the standard genome is located on the M-9 chromosome, th e present finding lends a clear support for the hypothesis that this SCS ar ose from translocation of the proximal M-9 region containing the rDNA to th e distal region of the S-10 chromosome.
