Abstract
The novel yttrium(III) complex [YL(mu-OH)](2) (1) with L = {2,6-(C5H4CH2)(2 )C5H3N}(2-) wherein C5H3N represents a 2,6-pyridine-diyl unit has been obta ined by partial hydrolysis of the new homoleptic complex [(YL)(2)(mu-L)], s ome lanthanoid homologues of which have so far been characterized only spec troscopically. The crystal structure of 1 resembles that reported earlier f or the corresponding (CH2)(2)O(CH2)(2)-tethered complex [YL'(mu-OH)](2) (3) with L' = {(C5H4CH2CH2)(2)O}(2-) and suggests significant N-Y bonding, alt hough the N-Y distance is relatively long (2.621(3) Angstrom).
