With reference to two phase solids, Gurtin has recently formulated a unifie
d framework for Ginzburg-Landau's and Cahn-Hilliard's equations. The presen
t paper deals with its possible extension to generalized continua described
by arbitrary tenser-order parameters. The role of the configurational entr
opy is discussed in detail. Such an entropy allows to obtain kinetic rules
even in the theoretical limit case of frictionless materials.
