A case of bacteremia due to Ochrobactrum intermedium, with concomitant live
r abscesses, in an orthotopic liver transplant recipient is presented. Iden
tical microorganisms were isolated from fecal specimens and from an aspirat
e of a liver abscess that was indicative of invasion of the graft by gastro
intestinal spread. 16S DNA sequence analysis of the blood isolate revealed
the recovery of the recently proposed new species O. intermedium, closely r
elated to Ochrobactrum anthropi and Brucella spp.
