Abstract
We investigated uptake of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) by Daphnia pulex b y exposing individuals to radiolabeled DOG. Daphnids exposed to (DOC)-C-14 were more radioactive than either control (anesthetized) or unexposed daphn ids (P=0.0001), indicating direct uptake of DOG. Waste product radioacitvit y was greater than that of exposed daphnids, suggesting that assimilation o f DOC is probably low.
