Hs. Ubhi et al., Microstructure of the interface between chemical vapour-deposited diamond and platinum substrate, J MATER SCI, 33(15), 1998, pp. 3785-3789
Diamond fibres have been deposited by hot-filament chemical vapour depositi
on on a Pt. wire of 150 mu m diameter to form a diamond fibre. These diamon
d fibres with a Pt core were much less brittle than corresponding W-cored d
iamond fibres. This is attributed to a thin graphitic layer between the cor
e and the diamond, which allowed interface decohesion and plastic deformati
on of the ductile Pt core. The interface microstructure is compared with ot
her observations on diamond-Pt interfaces. (C) Crown Copyright 1998/DERA.
