Several physical, optical absorption and photoluminescence properties of Eu
3+-doped ZnF2-PbO-TeO2 glasses have been studied. From the measured intensi
ties of various absorption bands of these glasses the Judd-Ofelt parameters
Omega(2), Omega(4) and Omega(6) have been computed. The Judd-Ofelt theory
has been applied to characterize the photoluminescence spectra of these gla
sses. From this theory, various radiative properties, such as transition pr
obability, A, branching ratio, beta(r) and emission cross-section, sigma(P)
(E), for various emission levels of these glasses, have been determined and
reported. (C) 1998 Chapman & Hall.
