Abstract
Arsenic containing syndiotactic polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) using p-ABTAY (p-acetyl benzylidene triphenyl arsonium ylide)in benzene as the,photoinit iator at 30 +/- 0.2 degrees C has been synthesized. The system follows non- ideal kinetics (R-p proportional to [I](0.25) [M]) due to both primary radi cal termination and degradative chain transfer reaction. The glass transiti on temperature of PMMA is 145 degrees C. Analysis of the polymer by SEM tec hnique shows the presence of arsenic in it. The polymer has been characteri zed by Infra-red spectroscopy. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science S.A. All rights re served.
