Solubility measurements of several non-polar gases (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, H-2
, N-2, O-2, CH4, C2H4, C2H6, CF4, SF6 and CO2) in 1,1,1,3,3,3-hexafluoropro
pan-2-ol (HFIP) at 298.15 K and 101.33 kPa partial pressure of gas are repo
rted. The experimental values of the solubility of gases are expressed as m
ole fractions of gas. They are used to obtain the Gibbs energy for the solu
tion process whose values are then compared with those previously obtained
for 2,2,2-trifluoroethanol (TFE). Parameters for a Lennard-Jones 6-12 addit
ive potential for repulsive and dispersive forces between the solvent molec
ules are also estimated by using the scaled particle theory (SPT), and then
applied to calculate theoretical solubilities which are checked with the e
xperimental values.
