Ns. Ovanesyan et al., The state of iron in the Fe-ZSM-5-N2O system for selective oxidation of methane to methanol from data of Mossbauer spectroscopy, KINET CATAL, 39(6), 1998, pp. 792-797
Mossbauer spectra of Fe-ZSM-5 zeolite treated successively with N2O to obta
in active alpha-oxygen and then with CH4 were recorded. In air, the paramet
ers of spectra significantly changed because Fe2+ changed its coordination
from tetrahedral to octahedral. It was found that, when alpha-oxygen reacte
d with CH4 in the absence of air, Fe3+ previously formed by the reaction th
at yields alpha-oxygen from N2O is partially reduced to Fe2+. The nature of
active states of iron and the mechanism of methane oxidation are discussed
.
