Selective epitaxial growth of DyBa2Cu3O7 using Dy1-deltaCudeltaOx templates
has produced superconducting wires as small as 5 microns in width. A syste
matic study of the effects of template composition on the superconducting p
roperties of the wires is presented. The lateral diffusion of Dy and Cu fro
m the template into the wires is measured with characteristic X-ray maps. O
ptimized Dy1-deltaCudeltaOx templates are found to be useful in defining de
vice-size features without degradation of the superconducting properties of
