High-temperature superconducting (HTS) thick films have undergone a pe
riod of rapid progress since their discovery in 1986. In this review t
hick-film materials are described with special reference to their proc
essing, their properties and the development of devices. The devices i
nclude HTS magnetic shields, resonators for microwave filters, antenna
s and wire. The translation of science into applications has taken pla
ce in a relatively short time and already impressive performance is se
en in HTS prototype devices.
