Efficient use of organic compounds in electroluminescent devices requi
res detailed knowledge of their redox potential values and their abili
ty to form stable radical ions, information available from electrochem
ical investigations. The electrochemical behavior of the title compoun
ds (TH and PBD) is described, followed by the preparation of light-emi
tting diodes (LEDs) based on them. The characteristics of mixed single
-layer and separated double-layer devices presented here suggest that
PBD and TH could be useful for the construction of LEDs.
