Abstract
The manufacture of low-cost, protein-friendly, biocompatible materials is important for biomedical applications. A method is presented for m aking glass surfaces-on which the globular protein shape is often lost -benign to proteins by covalently grafting relatively short poly(ethyl ene glycol) chains (functionalized with trimethylsilane, see Figure), which form a brush-like self-assembled monolayer.
