Description of Polycoccum clauzadei Nav.-Ros, et C. Roux sp. nov. (Dothidea
les), a lichenicolous fungus known only from France (department Vaucluse).
It develops on Xanthoria elegans (Link) Th. Fr., on the thallus of which it
induces the formation of galls. The new species is close to P. pulvinatum
(Eitner) R. Sant. (= P. galligenum Vezda), but differs by smaller galls [(0
,2)0,4-0,8 mm diam.] and perithecioid ascomata [(120)140-190 x (110)120-180
mu m], and by typically obovoid ascospores. In addition, the asci of P. cl
auzadei are slightly smaller [(45)50-75(80) x 13-15 mu m] and are normally
4-6-spored.
