V. Calatayud et P. Navarro-rosines, Weddellomyces xanthoparmeliae sp. nov. and additions to the chorology of other species of the genus, MYCOTAXON, 69, 1998, pp. 503-514
Weddellomyces xanthoparmeliae Calatayud et Nav. Res. sp. nov., a non lichen
ized lichenicolous fungus growing on Xanthoparmelia cf. protomatrae, is des
cribed from Madrid province (Spain). The new species resembles W. erythroca
rpae by having spores with a very fine ornamentation in the inner perispore
and prominent tori in the septa of the young spores. Both taxa differ in t
he size of the spores, which are smaller in W, xanthoparmeliae, only (22)-2
3-30-(32) x (7)-8-9-(10) mu m. Additional chorological data are supplied fo
r three other species of Weddellomyces. W. heterochrous Nav.-Ros. et CI. Ro
ux is reported from Spain, on Aspicilia desertorum, and W.aff. protearius N
av.-Ros. et Cl. Roux from Austria, on Xanthoria elegans. W. epicallopisma i
s mentioned for the first time from the Italian Peninsula and from Israel.
