We describe a GX-year-old patient presenting with recurrent fever, who even
tually turned out to suffer from multiple myeloma. He was treated with Vinc
ristine, Doxorubicin and Dexamethasone combination chemotherapy and interme
diate dose Melphalan (70 mg/m(2)), respectively. Apart from periods of feve
r due to sepsis following chemotherapy, the recurrent fever disappeared aft
er response, but recurred synchronously with progression of the disease. Re
current fever in this case should be considered as a symptom of active mult
iple myeloma. This form of presentation of multiple myeloma has been descri
bed in literature only a few times. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science B.V. All righ
