Abstract
Results of a beam test of the combined PWO (20 x 20 x 200 mm(3) in size) an d lead glass (38 x 38 x 450 mm(3) in size) cells for a COMPASS electromagne tic calorimeter prototype are described. The dependence of total energy dep osited in a combined calorimeter as a function of distance L between front faces of lead glasses and PWO cells has been measured for electrons of diff erent energies. An optimal value for L is obtained. The energy resolution i s measured for the combined calorimeter. The position accuracy is estimated . The comparison of the measured characteristics of the calorimeter prototy pe with Monte Carlo simulation results is shown. (C) 1999 Elsevier Science B.V. All rights reserved.
