The single-event response of imaging detectors, averaged and normalised, ca
n furnish the PSF and then the MTF of the detector. Moreover, the analysis
of the single-event responses makes it possible to measure the fluctuation
of the output signal intensity and to express the output noises in terms of
quantum responses. Therefore, if the variances of the involved noises, the
quantum efficiency QE and the average input signal are known, the DQE of t
he detector can be determined. Experimental results are shown using a CCD-b
ased X-ray scintillation area detector in the 8-45 keV range. (C) 1998 Else
