Pinning properties of Bi2212 single crystals irradiated with 340 MeV Xe18+-
ions before and after annealing are investigated and compared. Isothermal m
agnetic hysteresis loops are recorded and ac susceptibility measurements ar
e also carried out. Inhomogeneities forming during the annealing process sh
ow higher critical current density, j(c), at fields greater than or similar
to the matching field, B-phi. A strong effect of collective flax pinning i
