The M3 transitions linking the nu 7/2[514] and nu 1/2[521] states in Pt-183
(78)105 and Os-181(76)105 have been searched by high-resolution conversion-
electron measurements. The reduced M3 transition probabilities have been es
timated and compared to the values obtained in neighbouring isotones (W-179
(74)105 and Au-184(79)105). All the known M3 transitions are presented and
their properties discussed, especially as a function of deformation, The pr
esent work supports the pi h9/2x nu 1/2[521] and pi h9/2x nu 7/2[514] parti
cle configuration assignments proposed for the Au-184 isomeric and ground s
