On the KCl : Au+ fluorescence

Results concerning the KCl:Au+ fluorescence are here presented. Only one em ission band was observed (peak position 3.678 eV, halfwidth 0.235 eV at 20. 7 K and broadening effective mode 12.7 meV). The fluorescence quantum yield shows a complex behaviour: a small decrease in the 20-70 K range and a sha rp increase in the 70-125 K range; this is roughly consistent with the pred icted on-centre configuration of Au+ in KCl. Finally, it progressively decr eases again above 125 K: this last trend is tentatively interpreted in term s of non-radiative transitions. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights r eserved.
