Abstract
Laparoscopic herniorrhaphy has evolved from an experimental procedure to a widely performed technique over the last decade. The historical background and development of the technique and the authors' own experience is discuss ed in detail. Complication and recurrence data are discussed as well as a r eview of the recent prospective randomized studies comparing laparoscopic a nd open techniques.
