On the effect of misalignment on the performance of U-type lip seal

The present experimental work evaluates the effect of misalignment on the p erformance of U-type lip seals. Adopting a specially designed test rig, bot h the effect of angular misalignment (skew) between shaft axis and seal axi s, and bore eccentricity have been fully considered under different operati ng conditions. Results concluded that bore eccentricity leads to higher rat es of leakage where as slight angular misalignment helps in reducing rate o f leakage. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science S.A.
