Production of C and B flavored mesons and their decays at LEP

The production rates of D-0, D+, D-s(+), Lambda(c), D*(+), D*(0), D-s*(+), D** and D-s** hadrons in Z(0) --> c (c) over bar and Z(0) --> b (b) over ba r measured by the LEP collaborations are presented. The measurements of the number of produced charm quarks in b-hadron decays and the partial width o f the Z(0) going into a charm quark pair Gamma c (c) over bar/Gamma (c) ove r bar(had) derived from charm production rates are discussed. The LEP measu rements of the semileptonic branching ratio Br(B--> l) are compared with re sults from CLEO and with recent theoretical calculations. From the producti on rates of pseudoscalar and vector mesons the ratio V/(V+P) in the D and t he D-s sectors are determined and the results are compared with simple spil l counting predictions. Finally the first observation of the radially excit ed D*' meson is discussed.
