Abstract
Solar torsional oscillations and the grand activity cycle may have a common origin, associated with the interaction of differential rotation and the g lobal magnetic field. This is suggested by studies of a nonlinear dynamo mo del that allows for the mutual influence of the magnetic field and solar ro tation.
