Abstract
South's (1998) comments on Sanson et al. (1996) raise a number of issues re lating to the general application of psychological theory to road safety re search, and in particular the validity of the theoretical construct of gene ral deterrence to driver behaviour. This comment on South suggests that roa d safety research, rather than psychology, is in need of a broader focus.
