Abstract
Significant differences were observed among the various genotypes of Chines e cabbage (Brassica campestris var, pekinensis L.) in respect of marketable yield as well as in content of chlorophyll, beta-carotene and ascorbic aci d. Hybrid # 85202 gave the highest yield (95.50 t/ha) followed by the genot ype 77 M (3)-27 (95.21 t/ha) and hybrjd # 85216 (94.74 t/ha). The lowest yi eld was obtained from hybrid # 82-157 (67.14 t/ha). The highest total chlor ophyll content (36.50 mg/100g) was recorded from the genotype 77 M (3)-40 a nd the lowest from the genotype 77 (3)-35 (12.97 mg/100 g). Chlorophyll-a a nd chlorophyll-b content of the genotypes varied from 9.37 to 19.00 and 3.7 0 to 17.03 mg/100 g, respectively. The content of beta-carotene ranged from 0.88 to 1.62 mg/100 g while that of ascorbic acid varied from 7.36 to 12.1 1 mg/100 g. Among the various genotypes tested hybrid # 85202 and 77 M (3)- 27 were found superior and selected to observe their potentiality in farmer s' field.
