Abstract
The high pressure phase behaviour of four liquid crystals, belonging to the class of laterally aryl-substituted mesogens has been studied with differe ntial thermal analysis. The pressure dependence of the phase transitions ha s been determined up to 300 MPa. Transition enthalpies have been determined with the aid of differential scanning calorimetry. Volume changes accompan ying the phase transitions have been calculated using the Clausius-Clapeyro n equation. Several metastable phase transitions have been discovered.
